On-Call Ecologist, Biological Consultant (San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast)

We’re looking for on-call ecologists with experience in wildlife ecology and/or botany for projects in the San Joaquin Valley and California’s Central Coast. The anticipated pay range for this position is $30.50 per hour to $46.00 per hour. Actual compensation within the range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What it’s like to work with us

Our regional team leaders have been researching and working in the San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast for more than three decades and have unparalleled expertise with regional species, habitats, regulatory environment, and habitat plans. The successful candidate will work with experienced senior ecologists as part of a collaborative project team to support environmental compliance for a variety of projects. You’ll be part of our team and conduct field studies, including surveys for rare plants or listed wildlife species such as San Joaquin kit fox, giant kangaroo rat, San Joaquin antelope squirrel, and blunt-nosed leopard lizard) as well as nesting bird surveys, and perform construction monitoring. Work may also include data collection and contributing to client reports.

Desired competencies, skills, and experience

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, plant ecology, wildlife biology, or an equivalent subject. Or equivalent demonstrable background in ecology and broad knowledge of the biology of desert fauna.
  • Attention to detail
  • A collaborative approach to work and communication

This position requires the future employee to:

  • Conduct field work and follow best practices for field safety
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations
  • Walk over varied terrain for surveys and work in inclement weather
  • Potentially travel within California for fieldwork
  • Flexibility to work up to 5 days/week
