Every member of our landscape architecture team has training in ecology, and works closely with seasoned H. T. Harvey & Associates ecologists on projects. Led by principal, Joe Howard, and associate Rachel Visscher, the landscape architecture group has experience with all phases of project planning from habitat restoration in natural and urban environments, to creating conceptual designs, performing site analysis and master planning, writing detailed construction documents, to facilitating client and community group sessions.
We bring the following principles to our work:
Our landscape architecture studio is integrated with our restoration ecology group. We are experienced with native plants, special-status species habitats, native habitat creation, restoration, and enhancement, and bio-engineering design. In addition, throughout the design process we collaborate side-by-side with our wildlife biologists and botanists to create sound, ecologically-based design solutions. We combine sound ecological science with landscape designs, even in harsh conditions, complex urban settings, and at large and remote sites.
Our experience with design and environmental support for dozens of park and trail projects in unique and environmentally sensitive areas, combined with our extensive restoration ecology work, has honed how we address landscape challenges. Each project has a unique set of ecological conditions, stakeholders, and physical and financial implications, and we specialize in creative solutions that simultaneously meet all of these constraints. The combination of H.T. Harvey & Associates’ landscape architects and ecologists creates a powerful team prepared to resolve project challenges and develop truly innovative ecological designs.
Before we begin designing, we carefully evaluate project needs, constraints, and limitations. Bolstered by the excellent communication and organizational skills of senior team leaders, we foster understanding and relationships amongst stakeholders to build project consensus. Whether facilitating planning workshops, coordinating amongst project participants, or working with regulators, we help stakeholders develop a common understanding of project goals and plans. By organizing, prioritizing and communicating about projects in an ecologically sensitive manner responsive to community needs and regulatory requirements, we have built a track-record of designing and planning constructible projects that frequently exceed client and stakeholder expectations.
